If you have never sung with a choir before, you might be wondering what actually happens at a Simply Singing rehearsal.
The good news is that there are no auditions, no pressure and no expectation that you can read music. Our rehearsals are friendly, relaxed and designed to help everyone enjoy singing together.
Inside a Simply Singing rehearsal
When you arrive, there is time to settle in, say hello and find a place. New singers are always made welcome, and you can choose the afternoon or evening rehearsal session that suits you.
Everyone works on the same repertoire, so whichever session you attend, you will be part of the same Simply Singing community.
Warming up
We begin with some gentle physical, breathing and vocal warm-ups. These help us relax, prepare our voices and get ready to sing.
There is nothing too demanding, and you only need to join in with what feels comfortable for you.
Learning the songs
Songs are introduced and rehearsed a section at a time. We work through the words, melody, rhythm and expression together, revisiting sections whenever we need to.
You do not need to read music. Lyrics are provided, and additional rehearsal resources are available for members who would like to practise between sessions.
We are currently enjoying our Disney programme, which gives us plenty of opportunities to explore memorable melodies, storytelling and a wide range of musical characters.
Time to talk and laugh
Rehearsals are about much more than learning the notes. Our tea and coffee break gives everyone an opportunity to chat, catch up and get to know one another.
There is plenty of laughter during the rehearsal too. We work hard, but enjoying the experience and supporting one another is just as important.
Join in at your own pace
Nobody is expected to know everything immediately. You can listen, learn and build your confidence at a pace that feels right for you.
Taking part in public performances is also a choice. Some members love performing, while others simply enjoy coming to rehearsals and singing with the group.
