Frequently asked questions

Thinking of singing with us? Here are answers to the questions we're asked the most often..

Do I need to Audition?

Not at all. There are no auditions, just come along, join in and enjoy singing with other people.

Do I need to read music?

No. Lyrics are provided for everyone, and printed music is available if you find it helpful. You can learn by listening and singing with the group.

What if I think I'm not a good singer?

That’s absolutely fine. Simply Singing is about enjoying music together, not being perfect. You can participate at a level that feels comfortable for you.

When and where do you rehearse?

We meet on selected Wednesdays at Brigg Methodist Church. Afternoon rehearsals run from 1.30pm–3.00pm and evening rehearsals from 7.30pm–9.00pm.

How much does it cost?

Each rehearsal costs £8, paid as you go. Tea, coffee and biscuits are included.

Do I have to perform?

No. Concerts and public performances are completely optional. You are very welcome to attend rehearsals simply because you enjoy singing.

I've never sung in a choir and I feel nervous. Will I be ok?

Absolutely. Many members felt nervous before their first rehearsal. We’ll give you a warm welcome, help you settle in and let you participate at a level that feels comfortable.

What happens during a rehearsal?

We begin with gentle physical, breathing and vocal warm-ups before learning and singing songs together. There is also a tea and coffee break, with plenty of time for a chat and a laugh.

Still have a question?

We would love to hear from you and help you feel confident about coming along.
